Opening of the Professional Translating and Interpreting Skills Training Course

Assoc. Dr. Duong Trung Y delivered the opening speech to the training course Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Trung Y, Vice President of HCMA affirmed the important role of international cooperation in the successful implementation of political tasks given to the Academy by the Party and the Government; especially in promoting innovation in curriculum framework and training content, training management skills and methods, capacity building in scientific research, policy consulting, capacity for integration and working in a new international environment of the Academy's teaching and research staff; constantly spreading the Party's views and policies on foreign affairs, the country's renovation and development achievements as well as the nation's cultural values; at the same time, thereby enhancing the position of the Academy in the international arena. Assoc. Dr. Duong Trung Y emphasized, in order to enhance the effectiveness of international cooperation activities of the Academy system in association with the development strategy of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics in the period of 2030, with a vision to 2045, organizing the "Professional Translating and Interpreting Skills Training Course" of HCMA for the Academy's staff was absolutely necessary, to supplement and update both knowledge and skills in translation and interpretation for staff working in international cooperation, staff participating in projects, joint research with foreign partners of the Academy system. This also helped learners understand the principles and requirements of the translation and interpretation work so that they can determine for themselves methods and measures of self-training to become translators and interpreters, meeting the requirements of the given job in the new context. In particular, this was also a valuable opportunity to strengthen the network connection between the Academy Center and regional Political Academies as well as units in the entire Academy system with regard to international integration and cooperation.  An overview of the opening ceremony The training program took place from June 20-26, 2022, with topics providing knowledge, principles, requirements and skills in translation and interpretation in foreign affairs, such as Theory of Translation, interpreting, the quality of translation and interpretation activities, methods of translation and interpretation; Specific writing styles in the field of translation, skills to grasp the main ideas when translating, skills of inferring meaning from context and embracing conciseness; Reflection skills, voice training, the ability to stress sounds for standard pronunciation, effective language conversion methods in spoken language; Serial interpreting skills: translation preparation skills, listening comprehension skills, content memorization skills, note-taking skills, expression skills in the target language; Cabin interpreting skills: using translation devices, listening and speaking skills in parallel, skills in guessing ideas according to the logic of the speech; Translation skills in the context of social interaction and work exchange; Translation skills in conferences and seminars; Practice translation skills: reading skills, text analysis skills; Skills to grasp the ideas of the original text and build an outline of the translation: translation skills, etc. Author: Đức Mạnh & M.H
